In January 2020 I decided to participate in a workshop “au fil de l’eau” (along water) organised by the photographer
Cindy Jeannon. The 2 days workshop took place in the Vosges area in east of France where she’s living at the moment. We were 5 photographers to participate which was a good number to share our experience.
The theme was “Au fil de l’eau” which means along water, we indeed went by streams, waterfall and lakes all surrounded by forest and mountains. Usually there’s more snow and ice during this workshop, but this year we only had a little bit of ice on the water so we end up with a workshop different than what it’s supposed to offer us… we can’t control the forecast and need to adapt to it.
Cindy wants thanks to this workshop to transmit the key to compose artistic images, to help us experiment new practices in the field or to observe the landscape and lights through the emotion we felt.
We started in the morning to analyse some of our pictures in the morning, then Cindy showed us some examples so we could get inspiration how to capture the elements, how to frame or play with textures and contrasts. We spend half a day outside, explore and try to use what we just learned. We returned to the “sweet-home” after sunset and selected our best pictures in order to analyse them the following morning. We shared our feelings and emotions and then had a good potluck dinner and local wine before a good night of sleep.
The second day we analysed our selected images all together, learned how we could improve and went on the field to put that in practice. We went by a big waterfall and then by a lake in the mountain that was completely frozen.
It was an good experience for all of us, on my side I end up taking different pictures than I would usually take. It help me to give another look of what’s surrounding us.
