Where is Hornvik?
Hornvik which is on Hornstrandir Peninsula is one of the most remote place in Iceland. Remote but not completely isolated. What I mean is that it won’t be easy to arrive there but you will find boats that takes you there. Once arrived, there’s no roads, no people living there and no shops.
If you like the wild, want to feel isolated or want to see the midnight sun, that is the place to go.
How came this idea to go there
During my summer 2009 spent in Iceland (check the video), during the my volunteer stay, we had a vacation week. During this week we tried to go there with, my volunteer friend Dave. We arrived pretty fast to Isafjordur by hitchhike. But from Isjafjordur we had to take a boat to reach Hornstrandir Natural Park. As a lot of people go there to visit or to hike there was no more place on the boat. The next free places were only the next boat a day later. This delay would mean to go on this peninsula having just one or two days there for hiking. This was for sure not what we wanted to do. We wanted a tour of at least 2-3 nights. And we were not ready to pay the price for such a short trip.
After all that said, you know why I didn’t went there yet. But that is just another good reason to return in Iceland.
